State, Leagues Back Far West Regional Qualifiers

US Youth Soccer of Nevada, the Silver State Girls Soccer League and the Nevada South Youth Soccer League were each pleased to provide financial support to our Nevada teams attending the Far West Regional Soccer Championships this past June in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Making these annual trips to participate in the Far West Regionals can be an expensive proposition for the teams. This year was no exception, as teams were faced with the added challenge of traveling to one of the most expensive destinations in the Far West Region. Compounding the issue even further were the recent dramatic increase in airline ticket rates in response to rising fuel costs. Unfortunately, some of our teams that earned a berth in the tournament were unable to make the trip, due largely to economic reasons.

The State Association provided each state championship team with $1,000 in financial support. Wildcard teams were given a grant of $800 per team. The State Association also paid the tournament entry fees for all teams eligible to participate in the Far West Regionals. Between the financial support and the entry fees, the State was pleased to provide nearly $30,000 in total financial support for the 15 Nevada teams traveling to Regionals.

The Silver State Girls Soccer League provided $1,000 to the state championship teams from their league, while also providing support in the amount of $800 for their wildcard teams. In total, seven teams represented Silver State in Hawaii. Nevada South was able to provide $3,890 for each of the eight teams representing their league.

Funds to provide this support come from tournaments that are conducted throughout the year by the State Association and by the leagues. In the case of the State, the annual Silver State Invitational helps to generate funds that are, in part, used to provide financial assistance to the teams traveling to Regionals. Nevada South and Silver State conduct the Rugrat tournament and Spring Fling tournaments, respectively, to generate money to help the teams representing their leagues.
